Recording studios in India charge between ₹500 and ₹3,000 an hour on published rate cards, and ₹1,000 an hour is the middle of the range. Mixing and mastering are priced separately, usually by the song, and a jam room costs less than a recording room. This guide sets out what studios publish, by city and by job, so that when a studio quotes you for a song you know whether the figure is fair.
How much do recording studios charge per hour in India?
146 studios listed on this site offer music recording, mixing or related work. 12 of them publish an hourly rate and 16 publish a price of some kind. The hourly rates run from ₹500 to ₹3,000, and half of them are at or below ₹1,000.
The chart shows the lowest published hourly rate in each city. It is the entry price, usually a room without an engineer, not what a session with one costs.

The same figures as a table, with how many studios stand behind each. In most cities that is one, two or three studios, so treat a city’s figure as an example, not an average.

What a recording studio hour includes
An hourly rate buys a room, and the price depends on which room and who comes with it.
- A vocal booth and control room is the standard booking for singers, rappers and voice artists: a treated booth with a condenser microphone, and an engineer at a desk outside it.
- A live room is a larger treated space for drums, a band or an ensemble, with lines running to the control room.
- A mix room is booked by the hour for mixing and mastering when a studio does not price those by the song. One Hyderabad post-production house lists Dolby Atmos mixing at ₹2,500 an hour with an engineer and ₹2,000 without.

With or without an engineer is the biggest single difference. Where a rate card prices both, the engineer adds ₹300 to ₹500 an hour: ₹800 against ₹500 for a sound-design room, ₹2,500 against ₹2,000 for the Atmos room above. Unless you can run the session yourself, pay for the engineer. A take that was never recorded properly cannot be mixed.
Mixing and mastering prices
Recording captures the performance; mixing balances the tracks; mastering prepares the finished mix for release. Studios price the last two per song, in tiers. One Delhi studio publishes the clearest ladder: ₹950 for a basic mix and master, ₹1,500 for standard and ₹5,500 for pro. In general, a basic tier balances the levels and brings the track up to release loudness; the higher tiers add detailed editing of the vocal, tuning where it is wanted, and more rounds of changes. Ask how many revisions are included; it is the usual point of friction.

Jam room and rehearsal rates
A jam room is a rehearsal space with a drum kit, amplifiers and a PA, rented by the hour, and it costs less than a recording room because nothing is being recorded. One Hyderabad studio publishes ₹600 an hour for its jam room against ₹1,000 for studio recording; a Bengaluru rehearsal studio lists ₹900 an hour. Confirm what is in the room before you book: a kit and amplifiers are usual, cymbals and cables sometimes are not.

Block bookings and packages
Some studios charge a flat rate however long you book: a Hyderabad dubbing and recording studio lists ₹500 an hour from two hours (₹1,000) to eight (₹4,000). Others discount longer blocks: one lists a lounge space at ₹2,000 for a single hour and ₹1,500 an hour across eight. For steady work there are monthly arrangements, such as a sound-design room at ₹65,000 a month with an engineer or ₹40,000 without. If you have several songs, record them in one longer session; the setup time is paid once.
What does it cost to record a song in India?
Three budgets built only from the published rates in this guide. They combine prices from different studios, so one studio’s quote will differ; the point is the shape of the cost.
| What you are recording | Studio time | Mix and master | Budget before GST |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vocals over a ready backing track | 2 hours at ₹500 to ₹1,000 | ₹950 basic to ₹5,500 pro | ₹2,000 to ₹7,500 |
| An acoustic song with two or three instruments | 4 hours at ₹750 to ₹1,500 | ₹1,500 standard | ₹4,500 to ₹7,500 |
| A band, tracked in a day | 8 hours at ₹500 to ₹1,500 | ₹5,500 pro | ₹9,500 to ₹17,500 |
Plan the time honestly. Vocals on a prepared track take one to two hours including the soundcheck and a few takes. Each instrument adds time, and a band tracking live needs a day. Overrunning is charged by the hour.

How to get a quote you can compare
Every listing on this site shows the studio’s phone number and its rate card where the studio publishes one. Recording a podcast rather than a song? The podcast studio cost guide covers that side.
How we got these numbers
The opening figures, the chart, the table and the city rankings are calculated from the studio listings on this site every time this page refreshes, counting the studios that offer music recording, mixing, mastering, dubbing or rehearsal by their own description. Nothing in them is estimated. The worked examples are quoted from rate cards published on listings in October 2026, by city and without naming the studio, because prices change and the listing is the place to check them. The limit is the same as for any published price: most studios do not publish one, and only 16 of 146 here do.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to record a song in India?
On published rates, recording vocals over a ready backing track costs about ₹2,000 to ₹7,500 including mixing and mastering: one to two hours of studio time at ₹500 to ₹1,000 an hour, plus a mix and master at ₹950 to ₹5,500 per song. A song with live instruments or a full band costs more because it takes a half day or a day to record.
How much do recording studios charge per hour in India?
Published hourly rates on this site run from ₹500 to ₹3,000, with a middle value of ₹1,000, across the 12 studios offering music work that publish one. The low end is a room without an engineer; the high end includes one.
How much does mixing and mastering cost in India?
Studios price it per song, in tiers. One Delhi studio publishes ₹950 for a basic mix and master, ₹1,500 for standard and ₹5,500 for pro. Where it is priced by the hour, one Hyderabad post-production house lists Dolby Atmos mixing at ₹2,500 an hour with an engineer. Ask how many revisions the price includes.
How long does it take to record a song in a studio?
Plan one to two hours for vocals over a prepared backing track, including the soundcheck and several takes. Each live instrument adds time; a band recording together needs a full day. Mixing and mastering happen afterwards and are priced separately.
Do I need a sound engineer for a recording session?
Yes, unless you can run the session yourself. On rate cards that price both options the engineer adds ₹300 to ₹500 an hour, and a take that was recorded badly cannot be fixed in the mix. Most studios include an engineer in their standard rate; confirm it when you book.
How much does a jam room cost per hour?
Published jam room rates on this site are ₹600 and ₹900 an hour, below the same studios' recording rates, because nothing is being recorded. Check whether the drum kit, amplifiers, cymbals and cables are included.
Is GST charged on recording studio bookings?
Several published rate cards state that GST is extra. At 18%, a ₹4,000 session becomes ₹4,720. Ask whether a quote includes it before comparing it with another.
